A welcome luncheon was held at the Harlingen Casa Del Sol Event Center, Tuesday, July 22, for Dr. Guy Bailey, Dr. Francisco Fernandez and supporting community leaders. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley President Guy Bailey and Francisco Fernandez, founding dean of the university’s medical school, spoke about the new university. Dr. Bailey pointed out that an important feature of the school is the integration of the new medical school within a larger academic university. Dr. Bailey said, “What we want to be is a model for universities of the 21st century.”
The first medical class will begin in 2015. The new medical school will include a new high-tech teaching and training Program according to Dr. Fernandez.
Brownsville Family Dentistry along with our other offices are proud to join the community in supporting this initiative that will give the Rio Grande Valley community access locally to higher education.
